Men Swimwear: what to wear this summer

Men Swimwear: what to wear this summer

As promised, after showing you the women's swimsuit trends, it's time to discover the men's. Whether you're like us, who love the sun and suffer from heliophilia  desire to stay in the sun , or you prefer the shade, swimwear cannot be missing in your wardrobe.

Although women's trends are more diverse, men's trends focus on length and print. Thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo, this year's essential trend is the short swim shorts. Since 2017, the player has been showing this model on his social networks. The aim is for the fabric to stay as up as possible so as not to create marks on your tan.

The models we have for you are not as short as CR7's, but they are enough for you to be able to fold them once or twice, just like the star often does. There are shorts for all tastes, from the most sober to the flashiest.

You may not have noticed, but the hems of men's clothing have been going up lately. First were the trousers, then the shorts and now the swimwear. Where once you would often see shorts up to the knee, now you can easily find models up to mid-thigh. According to fashion experts, this change is changing the way men's bodies are seen nowadays.

With the massification of genderless clothing and the battle to break the wall between genders, it has come to normalise the man showing more skin, a place that was predominantly occupied by women. This is what this year's fashion brings us: the man who can do it all. Comfort and acceptance are the key words. At least, this is what has been seen on the catwalks of Europe, which show crop-tops for men by Fendi and micro shorts by Prada.

Despite the trend being the shorter, the truth is that the perfect size for shorts is a timeless doubt. What we have in the greatest quantity at BZR-Street Style Culture is what is considered the perfect length: five inches, approximately 13 cm and down the middle of the leg. In addition to that, we also have the classic knee-length.

After the size, knowing the design of the model and the print of the fabric is key. After several confinements and a global pandemic, landscape print or travel themed patterns are in high demand. We want to travel, if only through our clothes. So the wanderlust is integrated into beach fashion, even if we are just sunbathing on the balcony. The Quiksilver Sunset are one of the examples, which take us to the California sunsets.

Still within the same ideology, and together withthe print fashion that we'vealready told you about in another post, another trend for 2021 is graphics. From the most realistic to the most abstract, unleash your most artistic self this summer. There's the Sandbar Monkey Puzzle by Deus Ex Machina, the Sunflowers by Santa Cruz and the Ellusion by Element to see just how diverse the models are.

If you're not so keen on taking risks, there's a trend that will be ideal for you. The bet on tailoring pieces was very present in the last year and in swimwear it was no different. So, straighter and classic models are on the rise, like the Military by Deus Ex Machina or the Light Quick Dry by Lacoste. As it couldn't be otherwise, you also have the sporty trend that never fails. There's a very varied offer and you're sure to find at least one that you like. Throughout the research phase, there was one name that came up many times as the go-to swimwear and they are the Baggies from Patagonia.

Just as fashion in general is cyclical, summer trends also follow suit. Men's swimwear was once akin to wrestling gear in the 1920s, and underwear in the 1940s. With the 1970s came speedos and from then on it was always increasing in length until the turn of the millennium. In the last two decades, however, the size has decreased again. Does this mean that in a few years we will return to the famous swim briefs?

Whatever the answer, what matters are the swimming trunks you need today. When it comes to choosing, you have to think about the size, the material, the waistband and the pattern. Despite the short trend, these days any size is acceptable. The important thing is that you feel comfortable and confident in them. When it comes to material, ideally it should be lightweight and quick drying. As for the waistband, models that have an adjustable drawstring are the safest bet, although an elasticated or buttoned option is more elegant. Finally, use pattern to show off your personality.

There are shorts to suit everyone and the best thing is that, for the most part, you can wear them off the beach. Whether it's for playing sports, running errands or walking cooler and more comfortably during the hot summer days, swim shorts are a good option. Usually, the most versatile for everyday situations are the longer ones, but it all depends on your style. Take a risk, bet on yourself and celebrate summer with BZR!
