Welcome to Disneyland

Welcome to Disneyland

Once upon a time... this is how our story begins today, just like many Disney films. Founded in 1923, the animation company is responsible for marking generations with its characters. The stories are full of magic and appeal to children and adults alike. That is why, with Children's Day approaching, we have come to tell you about the Taschen books where you can find out more about the world of Disney and its characters. Now, back to the story...

Once upon a time there was a little mouse called Mickey. He was created by Walt, one of two brothers at Disney Brothers Cartoon. Considered a pioneer in the animation industry, the company that would later change its name to Walt Disney Studios produced animated feature films, such as Plane Crazy (1928), in which the famous Mickey Mouse acted alongside his girlfriend Minnie. Over the years, the Disney brothers introduced princesses into their stories, starting with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937. This was followed by Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, the Little Mermaid, and so on, right up to the present day with Raya and the Last Dragon. In The Walt Disney Film Archives- The Animated Movies 1921-1968 you can see inside the imagery of one of the most creative minds of the 20th century. The book brings together hundreds of images and essays by Disney experts, with chapters dedicated to Walt's greatest hits like 101 Dalmatians, Pinocchio, Bambi, among others.

Apart from the world of animation, Walt Disney has six theme parks scattered around the world. The first one to open was in California in 1955. Welcome to Disneyland is the theme of the book Walt Disney's Disneyland. In 328 pages, you can learn more about Walt's dream come true, with unique access to the concept, development and launch of this magical world. Explore the first theme park, where fairy tales come to life and unknown galaxies reach into our imaginations.

Theme parks put aside, the main protagonist and symbol of the brand is the little mouse from the beginning of our story. With Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse. The Ultimate History you can explore in more detail the construction and development of the most famous mouse in the world that was almost named Mortimer. As well as marking generations, Mickey has inspired artists such as Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein.

Today, Walt Disney Studios is one of the biggest studios in Hollywood and is part of The Walt Disney Company, which owns several studios, including Pixar, Marvel Entertainment Inc. and Lucas Film.

Marvel Smash!

In the not too distant past, Marvel debuted with its first magazine on August 31, 1939. Still far from being part of the Disney family, the comic was a bestseller. About a year later, Steve Rogers was created to fight the Nazis. Cryopreserved for 20 years, Captain America is back, now for a completely different era. You can learn more about the story of the leader of the Avengers at The Little Book of Captain America.

Through ups and downs, Marvel gained a more fixed position in the market thanks to the success of rival DC Comics. In 1960, Jack Kirby and Stan Lee were responsible for creating the Fantastic Four. It was so successful that it spurred the creation of Spider-Man by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. A neighbourhood hero, Peter Parker is a normal teenager until the moment he is bitten by a radioactive spider. The incident of his Uncle Ben's death leads Peter to fight villains and protect his town. In the 192 pages of The Little Book of the Amazing Spider-Man you get a light and causal introduction to the world of Spider-Man, as well as access to the creative process around him.

In 2009, Marvel Entertainment was bought by the Walt Disney Company, with a catalogue of heroes such as the Hulk, Iron Man, Thor and the X-Men.

"Hulk Smash!" is the best known expression of the green monster created in 1962. When Bruce Banner was exposed to gamma radiation, his alter ego Hulk took over destroying everything in his path. In The Little Book of Hulk, we see how Banner's character was developed to deal with his multiple personality disorder. In turn, in The Little Book of Iron Man, we find out more about the man who defeated Thanos and in The Little Book of X-Men, we get to know the story of the mutant group led by Professor Xavier.

Marvel is currently a box-office phenomenon in cinemas and on small screens. You can learn about these and other stories in The Marvel Age of Comics 1961-1978 and understand the evolution of the narratives over the years. The resulting book is a treasure trove full of behind-the-scenes content for comic book fans, packed with the energy of one of the invincible eras for Marvel and its heroes.

After Marvel, the force is with us!

It was in May 1977, in a galaxy far, far away, that the first Star Wars film hit American cinemas. Nobody believed in the success of George Lucas' film, but the truth is that it was epic. Despite Fox's low investment in advertising, the cinemas filled up and in just five weeks the initial investment was recovered. This opened the way for LucasFilm to continue the saga that produced five more films and several series, before it was bought by The Walt Disney Company.

In The Star Wars Archives, 1999-2005 you can see more about the creation of the second trilogy. The 600 page book, shows how Anakin Skywalker grew up, how he found love with Padmé Amidala and how he turned to the dark side of the force. All accompanied with script pages, production documents, concept art, set photographs and posters.

After this journey through galaxies and universes, on this Children's Day remember Walt Disney's quote: "If you can dream it, you can do it. Always remember it all started with a dream and a mouse."
