Top 5: Adidas

In this week's Top 5 we bring you a brand that needs no introduction: Adidas. If by any chance you don't know much about the history of the German giant, we have apost dedicated to that that you can read.

Let's start by telling you in advance that in this Top 5 we didn't go for the conventional choices. Everyone already knows that the Stan Smith are, without a doubt, one of the brand's most important models. We've already explored their history, a few months ago, and if you visit our website you'll see that we have them available in several colours, in several sizes and for all genders. So, you won't find the sneakers created in 1973 in this Top.

Adidas is a brand full of stories and with a chronology of its own. Because of that, we chose to list this Top 5 by dates and not by preference. I'm sure you'll be surprised to find out more about each model's heritage.

1- Superstar

1969 was the year that man went to the moon. It was also the year the Adidas Superstar was created. Like many, these sneakers were meant for sports, but found their fame in streetwear. However, before that moment came, the Superstar were real stars in 1970s basketball, with players like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar wearing them.

In the following decade, they invaded dance floors with street hip-hop. At that time, the group Run-D.M.C. took the model as their own, wearing it in many performances. They even wrote a song about it. This prominence made the Superstar a street style phenomenon, where leather jackets and gold chains went perfectly with an Adidas Superstar.

Despite the success of the 80's, the sneakers with shell toecap were able to reinvent themselves and stay on top, always staying true to their origins. Today, they are a classic. Available in black and white, the whole family can be a superstar. All they have to do is choose between the various combinations that exist.

2- ZX 1K Boost

We continue with some sneakers that are actually recent, but the model that gave rise to them was created in 1984. The Adidas ZX were the base for many running models. That was the purpose for which they were created, although nowadays they are more often used in everyday life.

Developed by Jacques Chassaing and Markus Thaler, the ZX line has been divided between training and competition models, has been colour-coded to distinguish between supinator and pronator models and has also been colour-coded with four digits. Basically, the ZX family is known for its innovation and technology.

Since 2013, the ZX has been associated with Boost technology. Boost is nothing more than small foam capsules that absorb impact, provide comfort and return used energy, giving the wearer a boost. Since 2019, the date that marked the 35th anniversary of the model, Adidas has presented novelties such as the ZX 1K Boost, which is available in various colours for men and women.

3- Continental 80

The Adidas Continental 80 were launched in the second half of the 1980s, more precisely in 1986. The Stan Smith shone in the tennis world and the model created in France came to update the sneakers for this sport. However, the initial interest was not as expected and the model was put on the back burner only to resurface in 2018. This time, they were a success.

With the 80s setting the trends in the latest collections, it was expected that the same would happen in footwear. So, the sporty style, coupled with the retro design, gave the Continental 80s the right features to shine, at a time when athleisure was asserting itself. The current model keeps the vintage style, but includes all the current qualities of the brand's sneakers so that comfort and flexibility are not affected.

The Continental 80 are available for women, men and children, allowing you to have a family style. With the models varying between black and white, each sneaker has differentiating details, be it a Her Studio London print or stripes in red.

4- Multix

The history of this model is not known, but by its design we dare to say that it gets a bit of inspiration from the ZX line. With a more pointed shape, the Multix are a modern and renewed version of the casual sports shoes.

With this model, Adidas wants to show that casual doesn't have to be synonymous of boring or dull. With a sole with embossing and a mesh sporty upper, the Multix combine comfort with irreverence in the details. Don't let the apparent simplicity of this model fool you.

Just like with the Superstar and the Continental 80, you can also find the Multix for the whole family, with models available for women, men and children in various colours.

5- Zentic W

To finish this Top 5, we decided to make a bold choice. This model only exists for women and is completely white. As with the Multix, we can't find any information about it, nor do we know when it was created. However, we believe that it was in the last few years due to its different and futuristic design. We are, of course, talking about the Adidas Zentic W.

This model is different from everything we've seen so far, largely because of its sole. Apart from being more predominant on the back of the foot, the sole of the Zentic W is divided in two parts, simulating a kind of high heel. In addition to this differentiating aspect, this model is made with recycled material, meeting the brand's sustainable goals, namely regarding the fight against plastic waste.

According to Adidas, in our lives we always make several decisions and Zentic W decided to do the same. They decided that they were different enough to stand out, monochromatic in the right measure to match with everything and well padded so that there is no lack of comfort. They have everything you need. The rest, they say, only you can add.
