What is retro style?

Retro style refers to the various trends that dictated fashion, namely between the 1920s and 1990s, and which are now appearing in re-editions that significantly impact current generations. Among these trends, we can include clothing, footwear, accessories, hairstyles, among others.

In practice, this means that several trends from the youth of our parents and grandparents now return to impact our generation and so it will be successively.

Furthermore, we cannot forget the impact that the return of these trends has on different generations. Not only by keeping up with the latest fashion news, but also on an emotional level, since following and wearing a trend that in the past was adopted by our parents or grandparents touches us quite emotionally.

Could this be one of the reasons why retro style wins so many hearts?

Retro style x vintage style

If we talk about retro style it is inevitable not to talk about vintage style. Not because they have the same meaning, but because of the confusion that both concepts generate in most people.

Although both concepts refer to past styles, retro fashion is different from vintage fashion. Check it out!

Difference between retro and vintage style

As we have already mentioned earlier in this article, retro style is a modern reinterpretation of trends that significantly marked the fashion world in past eras, namely, between the 1920s and 1990s.

Moreover, retro fashion is often produced and sold by contemporary clothing brands and is typically made from modern materials and techniques.

In turn, vintage fashion refers to clothing, footwear and accessories that are of a specific era and were originally produced at that same time.

Thus, vintage garments are usually considered those that contain at least 2 decades and have been manufactured from traditional techniques.

Thus, vintage garments are usually only found in vintage or second hand shops.

In summary, we can define retro style as a modern re-edition of vintage styles, while vintage style corresponds to clothing originated and manufactured in the specific historical era, i.e. garments that are at least 20 years old.
