Happy Pride 🌈 The month of LGBTQIA+ Pride at BZR Street Style

Throughout the month of June, the "Happy Pride" campaign took place at BZR Street Style.

In this sense, BZR Street Style celebrated LGBTQIA+ Pride month through a set of initiatives, both online and offline.

Thus, defending the aesthetics of the 60s gay liberation movement, BZR Street Style filled with colour the windows of some of the largest shops of the BZR Street Style and Sports Bazaar chain of shops to celebrate and support all those who live and express themselves on their own terms.

In addition to the Pride decoration in the shop windows and interior, Happy Pride was also communicated and celebrated through BZR Street Style's digital communication, as a way to celebrate diversity and inclusion in the universe that is the Internet.

A very creative example of one of BZR Street Style's initiatives was the creation of a content, more precisely a video, where a plain white Levis t-shirt is dyed and coloured with the colours of the rainbow. The result was phenomenal, and volunteers to wear it are not lacking! 😎

Well, now that you're a little bit up to speed on some of our initiatives throughout the month of June, through our Happy Pride campaign, we thought it might make sense to tell you a little bit about why June is LGBTQIA+ Pride month. Would you agree? 😊

Why is June the LGBTQIA+ Pride month?

As we all know, Pride Month is when we commemorate the years of struggle for civil rights and the continued quest for equality and justice for members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Next, we will explain to you why these celebrations take place, every year, in the month of June.

June: a month to celebrate and support diversity and inclusion

History takes us back to the 1960s, an important time for various segments of society in the struggle for civil rights in the United States. At this time, it was illegal for the LGBTQIA+ community to be seen drinking or dancing with people of the same sex.

Therefore, due to the various prohibitions imposed, there were several bars that forbade entry to people from the community, for fear of subsequent fines to the bar owners and condemnations to the customers who frequented the bars.

However, the Stonewall In, a famous gay bar in the United States, understood that it didn't have to close the door to this community and it was in the early morning of 28 June 1969, in Greenwich Village, New York, that several police officers invaded this same bar, ending up arresting employees and beating those who showed resistance.

In turn, in the streets there were countless restless and angry people watching what would be yet another conflict of police abuse towards members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Already tired of witnessing police brutality and discrimination against the gay community, the crowd did not remain indifferent to this situation, thus demonstrating against the police for a week in that street.

This way, the revolt and the attitude of the citizens who took the initiative and the courage to demonstrate during this week spread throughout the city, thus becoming known as the Stonewall revolt, leading to the emergence of the LGBTQIA+ rights movement.

Since then, LGBTQIA+ pride is celebrated year after year in the month of June all over the world. Throughout Pride Month there are various marches around the world, fighting for equal rights and commemorating the anniversary of the Stonewall uprising, the demonstration that became the turning point for the gay liberation movement.

Pride Month: celebrating and supporting the LGBTQIA+ community today

Today, although there is still a long way to go when it comes to the acceptance and inclusion of the gay community around the world, the truth is that the result of this movement that has been with us for more than five decades has significantly changed society's point of view regarding this issue and from generation to generation the acceptance and inclusion of the LGBTQIA+ community is increasingly common and without prejudice.

However, the world is still not free from prejudice and, depending from country to country, from culture to culture, the acceptance towards this subject is higher or lower.

Fortunately, nowadays, we have several reference brands worldwide showing their support and pride for the LGBTQIA+ community, which has been having a very positive impact for the inclusion of this community and the acceptance of greater diversity by society in general.

At BZR Street Style we believe that everyone has the right to be what they want and to love who they want and how they want, as long as they are immensely happy. It was in this sense that we created "Happy Pride".

Happy Pride at BZR Street Style

Besides putting into practice several initiatives throughout this month, through the Happy Pride campaign, at BZR Street Style we believe that as important as showing our support with the LGBTQIA+ community and celebrating Pride month, is, without a doubt, to give space to the individual freedom of each one to be what they want, live as they want and express themselves as they want.

In this sense, we offer some articles that allow, both you and us, to go out and show that there is nothing more important than being proud of who we are! 😍
