The New Balance 550 are back in play

It was thought that the final whistle on the NB550s had already been blown, but a collaboration between New Balance and American brand Aimé Leon Dore (ALD) has brought them back in 2020. If you think they have a vintage look, you're right! The model was re-picked from the 1989 archives, after being reported missing.

But let's go back a little further, to the time when New Balance was founded in 1906 by William J. Riley in Boston. It all started with the New Balance ArchSupport Company which produced insoles and orthopaedic arches. Over 30 years, the brand evolved and became a reference in the running world. From there to jumping onto the basketball court and other sports was fast. Thus, within this context, the P550 Basketball Oxfords model, as it was known at the time, appeared.

However, due to the popularity of the racing models, the 550 was overshadowed and, because of that, stopped being manufactured. Everything changed last year, when the unknown model was updated by ALD. Since then, New Balance has partnered with other brands to develop versions of the NB550 sneakers and today we bring you the five latest models, in black, yellow, bordeaux, blue and green.

The 550 model is mostly white, and the feature that makes it stand out is the conjugation with a second colour in key points. Whether it's on the side, the tongue, the brand's logo, the sole, the famous 'N' or the model number, it's through these colour notes that the sneakers come to life. In turn, the upper is composed mainly of smooth and perforated white leather, with the exception of the toecap that is in grey suede. To top it off with comfort, the 550 has an Ortholite insole.

Quite similar to the original model, the New Balance 550 are the brand's new safe bet, since all the models launched since October last year have sold out. The 550's robust and different design fits the vintage trainers trend that has been seen on social media lately.

Available on our website, you can find the unisex model in green and blue in sizes between 36 and 46.5. In turn, the yellow, black and bordeaux versions are available for men, in sizes between 40.5 and 45. Enjoy the new New Balance model before the game is over and score some points with your style!
