Top 5: Asics

Top 5: Asics

The founder of Asics, Kihachiro Onitsuka, drew inspiration from everywhere to create his footwear and the imposing brand that would become Asics. We're not exaggerating when we say "everywhere". You may not know it, but it was during a meal that Onitsuka got the idea for one of his most successful soles. It was enough for him to see the tentacles of an octopus hanging from his plate.... It's interesting to understand the reasoning behind an empire.

And speaking of reasoning, let's get to another 'Top 5', where we show you our picks of the moment from your favourite brands. As you'd expect, Asics is one that couldn't be missed. Unlike other footwear companies, Asics is not so famous for its fashion side, being more known for its performance side. Therefore, this top is even more important than usual, to get to know the best that the brand has to offer.

Asics is a company with a great legacy and that bets on timeless designs, classics that are part of its history. And it is precisely this type of shoes that we are going to talk about today.

1- Asics Tiger Runner

Asics Tiger Runner

We didn't choose to show the sneakers by any order of preference, but we consider that this time we start right away with gold. An easy analogy, based on the colours of the sneakers, but that ends up making perfect sense when we discover that this model is the most similar to the brand's original.

The Asics Tiger Runner stay true to the Japanese company's DNA, even after the relaunch of the line in 2015. According to our research, the model from the 80s that originated this version that we bring you today was used for running. Despite having another name at the time, the 1967 Tiger Road Runner had a revolutionary sole for running workouts.

These sneakers you see in the image are made with synthetic materials and exist in several colour combinations, with both men's and women's versions.

2- Asics Gel- Nandi

Asics Gel-Nandi

The heritage of sport is not missing in the Gel-Nandi either. This Asics model was developed for lovers of hiking and running through nature who didn't have a sturdy and suitable enough pair of trainers for that purpose. They were launched in 2000 by the hands of the designer Shigeyuki Mitsui. Equipped for mixed terrain, these sneakers have automatically been timeless since their creation, with flowing lines and layers of different materials.

Now, by way of celebration for the 20th anniversary, the model has been reinvented, both in colour and bold details, like the patterned sole that you can see in the image. Currently, this Asics model has one of the most progressive midsoles of the brand that guarantees an effective cushioning. Basically, it's the perfect junction between comfort, style and a sporty vibe.

3- Asics Gel-Quantum

Asics Gel-Quantum

Since we're talking about Gel technology, an Asics registered cushioning system that absorbs impact and allows for a more dynamic movement, let's take the opportunity to tell you about our third choice: the Gel-Quantum. It's true that this model is much sportier than the previous ones, but it's essential to have a versatile wardrobe with a varied offer of sneakers.

The Asics Gel system was created in the 80's and the Quantum model appeared shortly after. There are three versions, the 90, the 180 and the 360, which refer to the degrees in which the technology is used. For example, the 360 model receives 360º cushioning, which means it is all over the sneaker.

The Gel- Quantum sneakers are a reference among runners who want to be fashionable and among fans of a more comfortable urban fashion. These sneakers have an irreverent sole that allows you to see how much Gel is used. In addition, the upper part of the sneaker is made of mesh, which guarantees great breathability of the foot.

4- Asics Lyte Classic

Asics Lyte Classic

This option is one of the most classic that we're going to show you today. The Lyte Classic are inspired by the Gel-Lyte III, a pair of sneakers known for their extreme lightness and different silhouette. In 1987, the sport magazines advertised this model as a real speed freak.

This version doesn't go as fast anymore, but keeps the running design and comfort. Due to market demand, the Gel- Lyte III were rethought for the urban casual market, thus being born the Lyte Classic, with a leather finish.

We have versions in multiple colours, both for men and women.

5- Asics Japan S Pf

Let's finish this 'Top 5' with an option that combines the best of Asics with one of the big trends of the moment: the platform sole. Although this model also exists with a full-size sole, the higher version brings a current feel and suits any outfit.

The Asics Japan S were inspired by the brand's 1981 trainers, especially the vintage basketball models. As you'd expect, there's no shortage of the famous stripes that everyone associates with Asics and a retro logo on the tongue of the sneaker.

Betting on Asics is betting on the classic and on the timeless. We only show you five models, but the truth is that Asics is full of novelties that you won't want to miss. Visit our website and lose yourself in the Asics world.
