Crocs, come as you are

There are those who love them and those who hate them. The opinion is not unanimous, but the truth is that Crocs are a growing trend. In the last year alone, the brand's sales have risen more than 60%.

In 2002, Lyndon Hansos, Scoot Seamas and George Boedecker realised that they had not yet invented the right footwear to wear during their sailing trips. So the three friends decided to create Crocs. Unlike many companies, they didn't actually invent the model. They created the brand and bought the Croslite foam model from a company in Canada.

The goal of Crocs is clear. To make everyone comfortable and confident in their own feet. The American brand came close to bankruptcy in 2009, but with a strong marketing strategy managed to turn things around. Despite Crocs being known as the ugliest shoes ever, the brand's work has brought them back into the limelight over the past five years. Literally. This year, musician Questlove strutted down the Oscars red carpet in a gold model.

It was collaborations with celebrities and big brands such as KFC and Balenciaga that increased Crocs' popularity. With limited editions that sold out quickly, the brand created lines in partnership with Post Malone, Drew Barrimore, Ruby Rose, Natalie Dormer, Justin Bieber, Priyanka Chopra Jones and designer Christopher Kane. During the pandemic, Crocs sales increased even more. The demand for comfortable shoes and the possibility of customising the models with accessories, the so-called Jibbitz, contributed to the brand's current state of grace.

More accepted on the feet of younger people, especially children, Crocs have a prominent role in the health area, and we often see health assistants, nurses, doctors, dentists and pharmacists wearing the model. Being aware of this, the brand decided to give Crocs to health professionals several times since the beginning of the pandemic. Overall, 900,000 Crocs have been given away worldwide.

Crocs are one of the current trends, with many celebrities appearing with them on social media. The most recent example was the singer Nicki Minaj, who appeared wearing only pink Crocs, in a post announcing news. The Crocs website went down that day with so much demand. Another example is Justin Bieber, who launched the trend of Crocs with white socks.

The truth is that like it or not, everyone knows Crocs. This year, the collection has lots of colour, glitter, tie dye, platform and a more classic men's model.
