Up to Five: Platforms

Up to Five: Platforms

If good series deserve spin-offs, so do good headings! Directly from 'Top 5', following the same ideology, comes 'Up to Five'. Here we will present you our five (or up to five) favourite products of a certain theme. There are no rules. We can mix brands, types of products, trends... whatever comes to mind, really.

Today, to get us off to a soft start, we're going to talk about one of our favourite trends: platform shoes. If you haven't noticed that platforms are a trend, then you must have been living under a rock. They're everywhere, and according to what we've seen, they're going to continue around next season. If by chance you don't know what we're talking about, we'll explain. Platforms are a straight, block heel that runs through the entirety of the shoe. In other words, you don't have the typical heel under the heel, but under the entire foot.

The platform was an icon in the 70s, with rock artists, and came back in the 90s with the Spice Girls. Who doesn't remember the sturdy Buffalo sneakers they wore, with thick and exuberant soles? Since then, platforms have been appearing from time to time, until we got to nowadays. As you can find platforms from several brands on our website, we decided to choose five to tell you about them.

1- Crocs Bae

We start right away with a polemic. Yes, there are those who love them and those who hate them. But what does it mean to pair Crocs with the platform trend? The first brand to try it was Balenciaga in 2018, with a pink model that was 11cm high. Now, the Crocs we bring you today are exclusive to the brand and are 6cm. The Bae are classic Crocs with an extra dose of height, attitude and style. The high sole has relief and texture, making the model more interesting. We have this model in white and black.

Bae is the acronym for Before Anyone Else. Usually used to talk about a boyfriend, girlfriend, best friend or friend, this acronym shows how much you'll like these Crocs. Apart from the model following trends, the brand has been in the mouth of the world on social networks. The most recent example was the singer Nicki Minaj that appeared wearing only pink Crocs, in a post in May where she announced news. The Crocs website went down that day with so much demand.

2- Puma Cruise Rider Silk Road

Regardless of the height of the platform, the Cruise Rider are for those who dream big. This model has emerged as a continuation of the Rider family. With a mix of colours and materials, the Puma Cruise Rider is represented by model Winnie Harlow. For her, these sneakers with a dynamic sole and bold design are perfect to match with everything.

This model in light pastel shades is the second to be made available by Puma. This time, the featured colours are yellow, pink, black and green. The Cruise Rider are part of the "She Move Us" platform, which celebrates women who take sports and culture forward.

3- Dr. Martens Voss Quad

There's not much to say about Dr. Martens. It's a benchmark brand in boots, which is second to none when it comes to sandals. The Voss Quad are 7.5 cm high and made of leather. The sandals have a more robust and alternative style, which takes references from the heritage of the social revolution of the 60s, the grunge of the 80s, heavy metal and the Emo movement.

They are authentic, non-conformist, different, durable, comfortable and versatile. They are a symbol of attitude and power, with two adjustable straps for a more customizable fit. The Dr. Martens Voss Quad are available in black and purple, both colours with a matte finish.

4- Vans Sk8-Hi Stacked

Back to sneakers, we continue with a brand that never lets its models stagnate. Vans has taken an iconic model, the Sk8-Hi, and mixed the platform trend with the typical skate shoe. The Sk8-Hi was introduced in the 70s as one of the great innovations of the brand, with a higher design, which protected the ankles of the athletes and gave even more style to those who wore them.

The Sk8-Hi are one of Vans' most famous models and in 2020 the brand decided to literally elevate their sneakers with the Stacked Pack collection. The suede sneakers have a 4.3cm platform, with plaid pattern details. In addition to this more classic version, we also have the Era model and the Old Skool model with the same sole, but this time with the plaid pattern on the fabric.

5- Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Lift Hybrid

To finish this 'Up to Five' in style, we have a pair of All Star made with recycled materials. In the 4cm rubber platform you can find traces of the mixture of materials, mainly in the heel logo. In addition to that, you can also see those details on the famous converse sticker, which is also made of rubber. In turn, the canvas is made with 65% recycled cotton and 35% polyester.

These sneakers meet the mother brand's 'Move to Zero' initiative, which outlines sustainable plans. It's reason to say 'Rise.Recycle.Repeat'. Now that we've shown you our choice of platforms, it's time to explore our website and find out which ones are your favourites.
