Spice it up with Buffalo

It was on the feet of Emma Bunton, more precisely Baby Spice, that Buffalo achieved worldwide fame in the 90s. However, the history of the German brand began in 1976, with a trip by Michael Conradi to Mexico.

Conradi was on holiday in the United States when he discovered the existence of cowboy boots. He decided to bring the model to Europe and start production in his country, in the city of Wiesbaden. With a true entrepreneurial spirit, Conradi founded the company Buffalo Boots GmbH three years later. At the time, he was already mass producing the boots due to high demand.

In 1984, Buffalo surprised again, this time with sneakers. Produced in over 20 different colours, the brand's footwear became a cult, which would be catapulted 11 years later with the invention of the platform sneakers. It's from here that almost everyone knows the brand. The year 1995 was marked by the Buffalo high soles, which invaded the footwear market and became a symbol of the 90s and the raves of the time.

The shoes were known as Buffalo Classic and their launch coincided with the explosion of techno music in Frankfurt and the grunge movement in the UK. It was with alternative culture that the brand evolved, especially with the image of the Spice Girls. The girlsband wore the brand's footwear in videos, in interviews and at performances, making it an icon of freedom, fun and open-mindedness. Wearing Buffalo symbolised the emancipation of women, with footwear that was more unisex than feminine.

Buffalo sneakers became part of street style, making the German brand one of the most recognised on the European market. Despite the prominence given to the Spice Girls, other artists such as Cher, Madonna and N'SYNC were also boosters of Buffalo footwear.

In time, Buffalo disappeared, just like the Spice Girls. Coincidentally or not, both returned to fame around 2019. The Spice Girls went on tour in the UK and Buffalo and their design invaded aspasserelles.

In 2016, Buffalo Boots GmbH became part of the Deichmann Group and it was with that momentum that the brand relaunched models again in 2017. It was decided to create a second brand, with Buffalo, the main brand house, being geared towards the more commercial side and Buffalo London towards the luxury market, without ever forgetting the youthful mentality of the company. Currently, the brand is experiencing a new high with the re-appropriation of 90s fashion.

Buffalo's 2021 collection has boldness as its motto. The aim is to be "bolder than ever". With inspirations from the city lifestyle, this year's collection wants to empower the real you. There are options that pay homage to streetstyle and others to current trends. The models are vegan, meeting the brand's ideology that defends animal rights and fair working conditions.

Not many brands have the same cultural legacy as Buffalo. The German company is experiencing a moment of great fame with celebrities such as Gigi Hadid and Billie Eilish wearing its models. It may not seem like much, but the brand believes that this is synonymous with non-conformism and fighting back. Join Buffalo and change your outlook on the world. Maybe a change of perspective is all you need.
