"The Americans have put their flag on the moon. Big deal!"

You may not know, but Havaianas are a mixture of four very different countries. They are created in Brazil, inspired by Japanese Zori sandals for the sole, a Greek pattern for the strap and Hawaii for the name. The brand's golden product that can be seen on the feet of many people worldwide is back for another summer with lots of warmth and style. There are more elegant models, classic models but with a twist, espadrilles and models for children. With 200 million pairs being sold every year in Brazil alone, Havaianas does not mess around.

It was in 1962 that the Alpargatas company created Havaianas. Inspired by Japanese flip-flops made from rice straws, the sole had -and still has- a texture that reproduces small grains of rice. This is how they are distinguished from other similar brands. They began by being sold in Kombi vans near the beach. As time went by, their fame grew and the rubber slipper was already being produced by the thousands in the first year. Despite not having the most attractive looks, Havaianas excelled in comfort and the fact that they didn't get smelly or lose their shape.

"Havaianas. The real ones" was the slogan used in 1970 when the first fakes appeared. It was also around that time, that due to a bad batch, Havaianas evolved. Instead of the traditional blue strip, the flip-flops had green ones. The success was such that, in a short time, the brand's flip-flops were already available with straps in green, yellow, pink, red and black.

However, the brand's reinvention didn't stop there and in 1994 the first model with colour on the top of the sole appeared. The invention that later led to the creation of Havaianas Top was very organic. It was on the beach and with surfers that the brand discovered the potential of colour, one of the most striking aspects of Havaianas today.

A brand for everyone, Havaianas didn't take long to create models for the little ones, so that parents and children could match. In 1997, Havaianas Baby was born. In sandals, with a strap on the heel to attach to the child's foot or identical to the normal models, but on a smaller scale, there is a very wide variety of Havaianas for children. The big difference is that in some of the models you can find patterns and children's favourite characters, such as Elsa and Anna, Timon and Pumba, Hello Kitty, Teen Titan, the Avengers, Bart Simpson, Mickey, Minnie and the Minions. Discover sizes from 20 to 32 here.

Skipping more than a decade, the flip-flops with a name inspired by a paradise of sand, sea, surf and good environment returned with great novelties in 2010. It was that year that the Soul Collection was launched, with covered footwear, opening the door to Havaianas for less warm periods, such as spring and autumn. With cloth sewn directly onto the sole, the Soul Collection is made up of espadrilles and mules. With most of the models being unisex and with the usual sole, the espadrilles are available in various colours, with various patterns and even with ribbons to wrap around the ankle. In turn, the mules are made with recycled material and are available in two different models. The Mule Eco, with a more rounded front, is similar to an espadrille, with no fabric around the heel. On the other hand, the Mule Loafer Flatform are made with leather canvas, have a pointed front and are platform.

In Havaianas' history, it is also worth mentioning the sandals, clothing and accessories collection, launched in 2017, and the Havaianas Slide, in 2018.The brand believes that there are aspects that cannot be neglected. Energy, design, style, comfort, value, universality and sustainability are pillars of Havaianas. With the desire not to waste, the brand reuses 90% of the rubber leftovers and the remaining 10% are used by other industries.

More than one of the major worldwide references in flip-flops, Havaianas wants to be a lifestyle. See here all the models we have available.
