The hat that is everywhere

The hat that is everywhere

They are better known as bucket hats. The "bucket hats" or the fisherman hats, as they were known at the beginning of the 20th century, have been part of streetstyle for about three years now. Basically, they are hats with a full brim. They have invaded the catwalk and social networks. Some people love them and others think they don't look good on anyone. The truth is that bucket hats are a trend this summer and, it seems, will also be a trend in autumn / winter.

The hat model was invented in Ireland in the mid-20th century. As the name suggests, they were designed so that fishermen and farmers could work protected from the rain, as it covers the forehead and neck area. Years later, they were used by soldiers during the Second World War and the Vietnam War because, apart from protecting them from branches and the sun in the forests, they helped in camouflage.

Despite its technical intent by then, the bucket hat became popular in the 1960s due to the mob subculture, and was one of the movement's key accessories. Twenty years later, it was adopted by the hip hop community. Artists like Big Bank Hank, LL Cool J and Jay-Z were often seen wearing these hats during their concerts and in music videos of their songs. As with all trends, fisherman hats lost prominence during the 1990s and 2000s, but have made a strong comeback in the last three years, starting by treading the catwalk at Prada, Gucci and Burberry in 2018.

Going strong in street style this season, there are several models of bucket hats. With flaps of different sizes and shapes between the roundest and the squarest, the fisherman hat has a usually unisex model. In our website you can find the bucket hat combined with several trends, such as tie-dye, print and graphics, in bolder versions like camouflage and plaid, or even in versions with classic colours.

When it comes to how to wear a fisherman hat, we have good news for you: it can transform any outfit. In plain and monochromatic looks, a hat with a strong pattern, like the Element Tam, will highlight the outfit. On the other hand, a hat in the same colour will give continuity to the outfit. If you have a dress or an outfit that's too romantic and you want to transform the outfit into something more casual, just add a bucket hat and some sportier trainers, for example. Your imagination is the limit.

Whether to wear on the beach, in the country or in the city, there are fisherman hats for all tastes. Find the right model for you and as Vasco Leitão used to say in Lisbon Song "hats abound!" and they are on BZR- Street Style.
